Crossmark Policy

Publication Status & Updates
Helping readers identify the current status of DLHD publications.
Decision, Learning, and Human Development (DLHD) is committed to maintaining an accurate and transparent scholarly record. Crossmark, a service from Crossref, provides a standard mechanism for communicating whether a published work is current or has received an editorially significant post-publication update.
Crossmark Principle
Check the status of the scholarly record—not only the file.
When Crossmark is active for a DLHD publication, readers can use the Crossmark button to check whether the work remains current or whether a correction, retraction, or other registered update has been issued.

i
Implementation Status
Crossmark activation and metadata registration are being prepared for DLHD.
This page defines the journal's update policy in preparation for Crossmark implementation. Crossmark should be considered active for DLHD only after this policy page has been assigned and registered with a DOI, relevant article metadata has been deposited with Crossref, and the Crossmark interface has been implemented on the applicable journal content.
01
Current Status
Indicates whether the registered scholarly work is current.
02
Registered Updates
Surfaces editorially significant updates linked through Crossref metadata.
03
Persistent Identification
Uses DOI metadata to connect published works with their update history.
04
Reader Transparency
Helps readers verify publication status from supported digital formats.
Update Policy
Which post-publication changes are registered as updates?
DLHD distinguishes minor production changes from editorially significant updates. Crossmark metadata is intended for changes that may affect the interpretation, reliability, status, or appropriate citation of a published work.
CO
Corrections, Errata & Clarifications
Material corrections, corrigenda, errata, clarifications, or addenda may be registered when they affect understanding, attribution, interpretation, or use of the published work.
EC
Expressions of Concern
An Expression of Concern may be linked to an article when a serious unresolved issue requires readers to be alerted while further clarification or investigation is pending.
RT
Retractions & Partial Retractions
Retraction metadata will identify when a published work, or a material part of it, should no longer be relied upon without the accompanying retraction notice.
OT
Other Significant Updates
Withdrawals, removals, new versions, or other Crossref-supported update types may be registered when applicable to the publication and its scholarly status.
Minor Changes
Not every production adjustment requires a Crossmark update
Minor changes that do not affect the scholarly meaning, attribution, interpretation, citation, or bibliographic identity of an article may be handled editorially without registering a Crossmark update. Examples may include insignificant spelling, typographical, or formatting corrections.
Core distinction Crossmark is reserved for changes important enough that readers should know the publication's scholarly status has changed.
Update Registration
How DLHD connects an article with an editorial update
01
Issue Identified
A material post-publication issue is evaluated under the journal's editorial and ethics procedures.
→
02
Update Published
Where required, DLHD publishes a distinct correction, retraction, concern, or other update notice.
→
03
DOI Relationship Registered
Relevant DOI and Crossmark metadata connect the update notice to the affected scholarly work.
→
04
Reader Status Updated
The Crossmark record can then alert readers to the registered status or update.
Version of Record
Significant updates should remain visible in the scholarly history
DLHD seeks to preserve the relationship between the original Version of Record and any material post-publication notice. Where an editorially significant correction, retraction, or related update is issued, the journal will avoid silently replacing the scholarly history in a way that makes the change difficult for readers to identify.

Crossmark Display
Where readers may encounter the Crossmark button
Supported digital versions
Once fully implemented, DLHD intends to display Crossmark consistently on applicable registered journal content, including article landing pages and PDF versions where required by Crossref participation rules.
Readers should click the Crossmark button rather than infer article status from the appearance or age of a locally saved file.
Reader Action
Click Crossmark to check for updates.
A Crossmark status display can indicate whether the registered work is current and identify linked updates when they have been deposited.
Additional Metadata
Crossmark may also communicate publication information beyond update status
Policy Persistence
This update policy must itself become a persistently identified record
Crossmark Update Policy DOI
Crossref requires a Crossmark update policy page to be assigned a DOI and registered before full participation. Once DLHD's policy DOI has been registered and verified, the DOI should be displayed here and included in Crossmark metadata for applicable journal content.
